WANTED

LOOK-A-LIKES & ACTORS

For a community film in, and about, Butetown, Cardiff.

We are looking for people to take the role of characters from archival photographic images of the Butetown area. Each image is of a community activist and we will be re-staging these images in exactly the same place they were taken years ago.

The film is silent, actors, who will be in full costume and make-up, will be required to stand perfectly still as the camera roves around the set up.

Go to www.butetownheroes.moonfruit.com for more information. If you think you look like anyone in the images or want to take part contact us via the website NOW.

Filming is due to take place around Easter 2012 in and around Butetown, Cardiff.

Review: Puss in Boots, St Peter’s Church Hall, Roath, Cardiff

ST Peter’s Players’ latest panto was the purr-fect post-Christmas treat for all the family.

Director Peter Cooksley (who also played Freckles) gave a polished performance as Freckles with his collection of great one-liners and some traditional pantomime ingredients.

Listening to the front row of St Peter’s schoolchildren scream themselves hoarse with delight was proof enough of the success of Cooksley’s latest offering.

Principals Jess Kingston (Peter), Paul Woods (Puss) and Imogen Andrews (Princess) were in fine form and were ably supported by the rest of the cast particularly Nikki Delve (Gruesome) and Liz Woods and Joshua Flynn as comedy duo Casper and Hector.

It was Delve’s first time in panto, but you would never think it. The Aberystwyth drama student was a suitably scary villain with an accomplished performance, dark stage make-up and a fantastic evil laugh and there was a star turn from the impressive young Kia Shah as Marjory Daw.

Also worth a mention was Puss’ theatrical make-up which could only be described as a masterpiece and the energetic, colourful dancing from the talented youngsters of the the chorus and Studio One Dance Company, superbly choreographed by Sara Ekstrom-Gabb.

Months of hard work and rehearsal by Cooksley and his dedicated team certainly paid off with all proceeds going to Woodlands High School.

The players have raised more than £15,000 pounds for the school and various other charities to date with some of the pupils from the school appearing on the stage on the opening night.

Speaking about Woodlands’ link with the players, headmaster Russell Webb said: “What started as a charitable act has become an important part of the school year.

“Pupils get to be part of a real panto in a real theatre which gives them so much on so many levels. And the evening has become a family occasion when our school family can get together with our friends in the community.”

The pantomine runs until Saturday.
